On the Dark Night My book The Dark Night: A Gift of God is scheduled to be available later this year from Herald Press (Scottdale, PA). Many Christians enter a dark night at some point during their life—but few of them have heard about the dark night, much less understand what God is trying to accomplish in this unique, life-giving experience. With plenty of stories and practical tips, this book offers clear and provocative insights on the sense of dryness in our spiritual lives, our inability to pray in familiar ways, and our passionate desire for God.
Unlike other works that confine the dark night to our inner life of prayer, this book not only roots the experience of the dark night in scripture, but also explores how the dark night can express itself in our vocation, in marriage and family life, and in the life of entire groups such as congregations.
The book connects the dark night with Christian discipleship and with God’s mission of creating shalom. Because they strengthen our faith, deepen our friendship with God, and propel us into countercultural mission, the dark night, with its resulting growth in contemplation, are gifts from God. |
