Retreat Descriptions

Prayer Practices for Terrifically Busy People

With busy schedules, many of us struggle to connect with God in our daily life. This retreat introduces you to prayer practices that can be done in 15 minutes or less (a few in 5 minutes or less), sometimes even while you’re doing other things. These include intriguing practices that may be new to many people, ranging from the historic to the contemporary. If you wish, each participant in this retreat can purchase a copy of Prayer Practices for Terrifically Busy People. To look at the books table of contents,

If youre not interested in the retreat, you can order your own copy of the book by clicking on the image below. Its available either in paperback or in a PDF file.

Comments from previous participants: This was a gift! . . . very interesting . . . a fresh approach to prayer . . . it was heavenly!

Maintaining A Spiritual Life with God through the Life Cycle

Most people dont connect with God the same way at age 45 or 63 or 79 as they did at 18 or 23 years of age. As our life with God matures, our patterns of inner prayer and outer service generally shift in significant ways. In this retreat we explore these shifts and try to understand how they affect our relationship with God.

When God Seems Absent and You Can't Pray

Sooner or later, many of us enter a dry time of life called the dark night (or the dark night of the soul). We desperately want to have a lively, loving relationship with Christ—but we can’t pray any more even though we’d like to. God seems distant and our spiritual practices feel empty. When this happens, you might think that your spiritual life is falling apart, but that is not true. Instead the Holy Spirit is gradually introducing you to a new way to pray that leads to deeper personal integration and new expressions of countercultural mission. This retreat helps you to navigate through the dark night to a new horizon of intimacy and delight with God. It complements my book The Dark Night: A Gift of God, to be published in late 2008 or early 2009 by Herald Press.

Behold the Glory of God: Learning to See

This retreat helps you to discover ways of seeing God’s glory. All Christians uphold the importance of believing the right things, behaving in the right ways, or belonging to the church universal. Yet few of us recognize the importance of beholding the glory of God—even though the Bible invites us again and again to behold the splendor of God.

Format

Each retreat works well in a half-day setting on a Saturday morning, although we can design other formats as well, such as afternoons or evenings.

One possible schedule:

8:30-9:00     Coffee, tea, and fellowship
9:00-10:00    Session 1
10:00-10:10  Break
10:10-11:00  Session 2
11:00-11:10  Break
11:10-12:00  Session 3

Fees

I suggest something in the range of $300-450 for a half day retreat (you pick the amount), which includes all materials accept any book that we might agree in advance to add. In certain situations I may be able to reduce this suggested fee.

There are no additional charges unless your location is more than 50 miles from Goshen, Indiana, in which case Ill be glad to accept reimbursement for the additional miles at 10¢ less than the standard IRS rate. Contact me for more information, dan@danschrock.org.
